A political protest on Carmeuse property has gone unnoticed by the company, so far.
A lake on their Beachville quarry property has been "occupied" by local resident Mike Farlow, who has been out fishing in a boat on the Lake since last night.
The Lake is supposed to be turned back over to the community after they are finished with the land, according to a past OMB ruling.
But those fighting against Walker's landfill proposal say the Lake wouldn't be enjoyable, and could be put at risk by a nearby dump.
So in protest, Mike Farlow has gone fishing on the Lake (and shared these photos), and spoke with Heart FM this afternoon. He compares it to another popular Oxford County quarry. "It's like Innerkip, but bigger. This could be such an economic boon for the area if it gets turned into a recreation area like a fishing like, or kayaking or even scuba diving, it's deep enough for that."
Farlow says the Lake is "crystal clear" and is "filled with fish".
Farlow spent last night on the Lake, and plans on staying out there another night. "I guess until I'm done fishing (laughs), or when my fishing license is revoked."
Farlow says because the Lake is connected to the Thames River, he doesn't believe he's trespassing. "My understanding is that you're not trespassing if you're on the Thames River system, and that's what we've discovered is the quarry is connected."
