WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Navy Vets will start their season in a few weeks.
They are currently in the middle of a pre-season run, which saw them pick up two wins in a row over the Hespeler Shamrocks.
Head coach Darren Young says 11 guys are returning to the squad this year.
"I think they can expect excitement. Like I said, the new kids are good. I like them a lot. And they can expect a competitive season where we're near the top of the league."
Young adds the returning players will help the team on and off the ice, which he says should help bridge the gap with the youth coming in. The Navy Vets also acquired two older players.
He says they've had their eye on most of the league since the end of last year.
"We have high expectations. It's hard to put a number on where we want to be but obviously we feel like we're confident enough to be near the top of the league and compete with the best teams in the league. So that's kind of our expectation."
The Navy Vets ended last season with 40 points, sitting in seventh place of the South Doherty Division.
The Navy Vets will wrap up their pre-season in a home and home series with North Middlesex next weekend.
They'll start their first game on the road against the Ayr Centennials on September 12th.
