The Community Complex will house a walk of fame for the Woodstock Navy Vets.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Navy Vet alumni will be permanently honoured at the Community Complex.
Mid 2016 is when they are hoping to have this project complete and President of the Navy Vets, Devon Young, feels this is the right time to recognize the talent from players over the years. "It was something we've talked about for a little while, it is just reaching back into our alumni, into our past. We started off with Dan Dukes and Sam Keeping as our first two inductees, we are still making arrangements for the specific presence of the Wall of Fame but we are hoping to have it all up and running by the summer and then start adding names from the past at that point in time."
As the Navy Vets continue their 50th anniversary season they continue to honour their history, and Young says they are still in the early stages of the process.
"We are putting together a committee to oversee it, it is going to headed up by Cam Roberts who is an alumni of ours as well. We are talking about modelling it after many other pro-sports wall of fame's and such, and the fact that it might be 1 or 2 a year and then we can establish somewhat of a baseline for what is qualifications to be in and honour those that should be in it."
Young says it is important to form a Wall of Fame for the Woodstock hockey organization, "It just stood out as something that we thought was due to be done one of our biggest objectives was to reach back out into the community that is our alumni as well as the Woodstock community."
"We have a very rich alumni. When we do put forth our initial first class which will probably be a large number of people, we can do so in the right manner," says Young.
