A new Walk-In Counselling Clinic is running in Woodstock. It's for people under 18 years of age and their families. Every Monday from 10am-5pm, families can go to the Oxford-Elgin Child and Youth Centre to meet with a therapist and receive suggestions and resources. Laura Glenney, a therapist at the centre, says the service is already showing a positive outcome: "We have had several clients drop in and use the service. As far as we know, they've left with new strategies and new ideas with how to handle the problem." She says immediate service can help in avoiding a crisis: "They need services when they call. Often times we find when we get however many months down the road maybe those issues have escalated, maybe there are new issues. And so, this is just a way to help minimize the impact of those issues without having the clients have to wait for service at a time when those situations could escalate to a crisis situation." Multiple therapists as well as in-home support workers are available each Monday. You can walk-in the centre located at 912 Dundas Street, call the agency: 1-877-539-0463, or visit their website: www.ocyc.on.ca for more information.
