The Norwich Arts and Culture Centre is a place for community, creativity, and companionship as it hosts all kinds of events
NORWICH - The Norwich Arts and Culture Centre is starting to turns some heads.
It has been up and running for a couple of months, taking over the former Pop Shoppe in the downtown core of Norwich. Tara King opened the Centre with her husband Tyler after acquiring the building to create a studio for her photography business. King says once they realized they didn't need all of that space they thought about turning it into an Arts and Culture centre.
"Just kind of a catch all space that everybody can use. We wanted it to be nice and there will always be art displayed there from local artists and people can use the space for baby showers, bridal showers, or whatever you can possibly think of. In the future I will use the space to exhibit my art as well as any local artist that wants to rent the space out to exhibit their art and have an art show or whatever they want to do."
The Norwich Optimist Club has been using the space for tween dances and tractor pull meetings and a local artist hosts classes for kids at the centre twice a month. King says they really wanted to provide an outlet for arts and culture to the young people in Norwich.
"It's arts and culture; it's not really related to any other business in Norwich and the fact that the idea is to bring the community together by using that space was well received in the community too. Being an art teacher for High School students, we really wanted to make that space available to that age group."
