Council vote against moving the Parkinson Road Firehall.
The Parkinson Road firehall will stay put for now.
During last week's budget deliberations, Council voted 5-2 against moving the hall to the corner of James and Springbank which would have ensured quicker response times for a larger area within the city.
Councillor Bill Bes brought forth the motion instead to spend money on upgrades to the Parkinson Road hall.
"The fire chief indicated there are some deficiencies with the Parkinson building that will not take a lot of expense that need to be addressed. So what I'd like to see happen instead is make those improvements to Parkinson."
Among the renovations would be installing higher doorways so staff, such as Chief Scott Tegler can enter a room without ducking as well as a public entrance.
Early estimates put the renovation costs around $44 thousand instead of 4-5 million dollars to move the hall.
Council's decision means areas like Parrot Place will continue to be outside of the standard four minute response time.
Meanwhile Tegler and the Deputy chief will have to make due with what they have when it comes to emergency response vehicles.
Last week council voted against sending $37,000 on a new vehicle for the Chief and Deputy chief to take home when they are on call.
Instead council wants the department to look into upgrades to a pair of Rav4s they already have in their fleet.
Mayor Pat Sobeski says the official costs of the upgrades aren't clear because it would have to be included in the operating budget and they were dealing with capital.
