Councillor Mark Schadenberg is bringing forward a notice of motion, asking his fellow councillors to not support a consumption treatment site in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - After hearing what the community had to say, a Woodstock City Councillor is still against the idea of a consumption treatment site opening in the Friendly City.
Councillor Mark Schadenberg will bring forward a notice of motion during today's City Council meeting, asking his fellow councillors to vote against the idea of a consumption treatment site opening in the city. The motion also asks council to support "the development of a campus of treatment services around addiction, mental health, rehabilitation, and transitional housing which does not include consumption services."
You can read the full notice of motion in today's City Council agenda. Once it's accepted by council, it will be discussed at their next meeting on October 19th.
Schadenberg brought forward a similar notice of motion earlier this year but withdrew it once the public meeting about consumption treatment sites was announced. The meeting was held on Tuesday September 26th. It was about four hours long and it included over 20 delegations, with 15 residents sharing their concerns regarding the potential site.
Today's City Council meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. and it will be livestreamed on the City of Woodstock YouTube page.
