Based off a true story, about a group of fisherman that own their own island of the coast of Nova Scotia

WOODSTOCK - The One Act Players Community Theatre is getting ready for its next production at St. David's Church in Woodstock.

Whimsy State is based on a true story, about a group of fisherman that own their own island off the coast of Nova Scotia in 1948.

Aaron Gorlik says you might find it a bit hard to believe, but it is based on reality.

"It's embellished along the lines a little bit but it is mostly based off of accurate and historical things. They had their own currency and their own charter of rights. All of these things are true!"

The fisherman also develop their own rules for the island. They have the right to lie, the right to believed and there are no women allowed.

Director Ted McLauchlin says it's sure to make you laugh.

"We're calling it a historical comedy, it's a new label! I think that even though it's based on truth, it's a lot of fun because there is a lot of hilarity that goes on in this play."

There will be three performances total, with a 7:30 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday, in addition to a 2:00 p.m. also on the Saturday. Tickets are $20 each and they can be purchased online here or at Carman's Foto Source in Woodstock.

Aaron Gorlick and Ted McLauchlin stopped by the studio with Jeff Sweete to chat with Dan Henry on Monday, March 23rd. You can listen to the full interview below:
