Oxford County is faring well during flu season so far.
The flu season across Ontario has been slow moving this year, and it is no different in Oxford County.
Since the fall the local Health Unit has only recorded one positive case of the influenza strain in the County. Supervisor in Health Protection Joanne Andrews tells Heart FM it has been a lot different than last year.
"Last year we had a greater number of flu cases and this year in Oxford County and across the Province we have seen lower numbers which is a great thing. Part of the reason is we have seen a better match this year between the influenza vaccine and the strain of flu circulating in the community."
Andrews says she is not certain if the warm weather has been a factor at all.
"I'm not familiar with any research that has looked at the relationship between the weather and flu instances but that is an interesting question that it would be interesting to see if there is any research to back that up."
Andrews says it is not too late to get your flu shot, and also recommends washing your hands regularly and staying home if you are sick.
