After 2-plus years of fundraising, Innerkip celebrates new playground equipment
It's a school kids' dream in Innerkip.
Students are breaking in brand new playground equipment this week.
The new equipment came after 2-and-a-half years of fundraising in the community.
Trish Harper of the fundraising committee tells Heart FM everyone was ecstatic at Tuesday's ribbon cutting. "The teachers are overwhelmed and so excited that we're done and the kids are having a great time. There's certainly a lot more there for them than what they had."
The old playground was over 40-years-old.
The fundraising was mostly done through school community and family events like spaghetti suppers and outdoor movie night. The Lions Club was also a key supporter in hosting a live and silent auction. Harper thanks the Innerkip community and businesses who supported all their fundraising projects.
It was a long 2-plus years of fundraising, but in seeing the joy of the kids this week, Harper says it makes it all worth the while. "We got a bunch of letters from the kids, which is great. They love the spider-web (climber) in the big end. The little kids love the tires they can climb through."
