CASS students support a fundraiser for the prevention of gender based violence
You may notice a lot of purple hats around CASS this winter.
That's because students were snapping them up at Purple Hat Day at the school.
Purple Beanies were being sold today for $5 each as a fundraiser in support of Ingamo Homes. The school's Minister of Charity, a Grade 11 student, who needs to remain anonymous tells Heart FM, "We're all coming together to help these women feel supported, and they're not alone going through the abuse and that people do care and they're doing something to help."
She hopes the students will also take the meaning of the hats to heart in their personal lives. "We're also trying to prevent it at school within teenagers, because that's when gender based violence begins. So we're just trying to get the message out there so they know what it is, and that they need to break the cycle."
The event included hot chocolate and cookies as part of the Zonta Club of Woodstock's "Zonta Says No" 16 days of activism.
