Annaleise Carr is hoping she can swim 75 kilometres of Lake Erie in 30 hours.
NORFOLK COUNT -- She's already conquered Lake Ontario and now she's ready to take on Lake Erie.
16 year-old Annaleise Carr is attempting to swim 75 kilometres from Erie Pennsylvania to Port Dover while raising funds for Camp Trillium.
The Norfolk County teen has spent a number of months concentrating on her training. "Probably about six or seven months and we've been going down to the lake every single day and doing two or three hours of swimming. I also do some running and go to the gym too."
Carr is now going to head into the lake between 4:00 and 6:00 am Friday morning, with the threat of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and is hoping to complete the swim in 30 hours. "What happens is that you go about an hour swimming and then you stop for like a couple of minutes and you tread water and you eat and have a drink. Then you swim for another hour and just keep doing that. It's straight through, you're not allowed to touch anybody or anything the whole time."
In August 2012, Carr swam Lake Ontario from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Toronto, a 53 kilometre swim. She became the youngest person to complete the swim and the join the “24 Hour Club.”
Carr set a goal of $30,000 for Camp Trillium and has raised over $100,000 to date. The camp supports children living with cancer and allows their family to join them during their stay at the camp.
She says Camp Trillium has been close to her heart since visiting at Rainbow Lake in the summer of 2011, as part of the North Shore Swimmers competing in a 10 km open water swim and 10 km run.
