Community Oxford got a big helping hand from the Rural Ontario Institute in the form of a $15,000 donation
OXFORD COUNTY - Rural Ontario Institute has donated 15 thousand dollars to Community Oxford.
The presentation happened during the Future Oxford Expo this morning. Co-Chair of Community Oxford Kelly Gilson says this donation will mean the voices of people here in Oxford will be heard by the right people. "It was an incredibly generous donation from the Rural Ontario Institute to help support the work our committee - Community Oxford - is doing specifically with the Canadian Index of Well being, so we're doing a community wide survey in April and May and this donation will help offset those costs."
The survey will ask recipients a range of questions in areas such as education, living standards, and community vitality.
Rural Ontario Chair Dean Anderson said this survey has a further reach than just Oxford - many of the issues that crop up here, are likely to be seen in other places as well. "The money that we're contributing is part of the measurement of the project and what we're trying to do is benchmark where this community is in the project and that will tell us how we can measure where we've advanced, where we're improving, where we're reaching. And the other important thing for us is we can take this information and take it to other rural communities."
Rural Ontario Institute Advisory Committee Member Sam Coghlan says this survey will make sure that the issues that are really impacting residents are noted, and not just issued at are perceived to be taking place. "Well Rural Oxford does so many excellent, wonderful things throughout the time I've lived here for 30 years but its hard to point to something and say what the effect is unless we measure."
