4 Shoppers Drug Mart locations have donated the money following an October campaign
WOODSTOCK - 4 Shoppers Drug Mart locations have given a substantial donation to Sakura House.
Norwich, Ingersoll, and the 2 Woodstock Shoppers Drug Mart stores all took part that will greatly assist the hospice. Pharmacist Owner of the east end Shoppers Drug Mart, Lisa Silverthorne, explains how this all began. "It is our Shoppers Drug Mart Annual Growing Women's Health Campaign, and every year the associates across Canada chose a charity to support and we decided on Sakura. I got my fellow associates together and we all joined together to support Sakura House this year." Silverthorne adds Sakura House may be located in Woodstock but it serves all residents within the county.
Silverthorne says they felt it important to donate the money to a local cause. "We felt that it supported our mission of supporting women's health and it was a local charity that all the stores in Oxford County could support together. We have many years in the past supported many charities with our conglomeration in the area. It sounds like we will be able to get some more on board, maybe from Tillsonburg to join us."
Fund Development Coordinator for VON Oxford, Kyra McNamara, says this money will be put to good use. "It is very meaningful for us, we do have to fundriase about a half a million dollars every year, the really essential piece is the awareness building. This is significant over $14,000 and it goes a very long way for us to be able to deliver the care that we deliver we are in a great place in terms of fundraising. We have always been able to depend on the people in the community."
