It's D-Day for the Woodstock Salvation Army...that's "Delivery Day". Over 600 Christmas Hampers are going to local families this year that include a full Christmas dinner, canned goods and toys for the children. Local Salvation Army Director Vanessa Scotney-Page has been taken aback by the demand. "It actually surprised me, and it was more of the working poor that have had to come, and I'm so glad that we're here for them." Many families also face transportation challenges in their day-to-day lives, and Scotney-Page says once again, a local cab company is helping out where they can. "Star Taxi this year has said anyone that needs a ride, we are to call them from here and they will come and give people rides home. What more could you ask for, right?" There are also dozens of volunteers helping out, including a large contingent of students from St. Michael's and St. Mary's. "They've been coming for many, many years now and these kids have been coming since they were old enough to carry a bag. They literally know what they're doing they come in and go to their stations, and I leave it to them." The Salvation Army has been working on this year's hamper program since August, and Scotney Page says on a day like today, it's defiantly worth the while. "Just to see the faces on the parents, when they leave with those bags, it's phenomenal."
