St. Mary's was put on hold and secure this morning for 10 minutes after police investigate a threat on social media. This is completely unrelated to the other lockdowns at HPSS and Winchester today.
WOODSTOCK - St. Mary's High School was placed under hold and secure this morning, while Woodstock Police investigated a threat.
The threat came through snapchat and it is something that is making the rounds at local schools across North America. Yesterday the same threat happened at schools in Waterloo Region.
The Snapchat messages are word for word across the board, they have also happened in the United States. St. Marys was placed under hold and secure for about 10 minutes today.
Special Constable Shaylyn Jackson says the Police take any and all threats seriously.
"Woodstock Police investigated the threat made through snapchat and social media platforms and have determined there was no threat to public safety and the hold and secure was lifted."
The incident at St. Marys had nothing to do with lockdowns at Winchester Street Public School and Huron Park Secondary. Police were called to Cromwell Street this morning after getting a report of two men with a weapon. This call was completely unrelated to the schools in the area. They were placed under hold and secure as a precaution. It turns out that two teens were responsible for the scare and the weapons they had were from a hunting trip.
There is also a rumour that the weapons call involved students from CASS. Woodstock Police have confirmed this is not true and nobody from CASS or any school in Woodstock had anything to do with the weapons call this morning.
