WOODSTOCK - The inaugural meeting of the newly formed Southwest Urban Mayors of Ontario took place in Stratford.
Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch joined his counterparts from Brantford, Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Stratford, London, Windsor and Sarnia. Birtch tells Heart FM they decided to form the group to work together on projects that help better the entire region.
"It's an opportunity for us to share ideas and look for common priorities that we can help lobby and advocate together to the senior levels of government.
He adds they had a very positive first meeting.
"It seems that we are able to set aside competing interests where one city is vying for a new facility against another city, so we were able to set all of those things aside and look at what we can do to help better the entire region."
One of the first things the group will do together in the near future is head to Ottawa as a team to look at infrastructure requirements and affordable housing solutions.
