Police and Special Olympians will take to the street, show their pride, and raise funds during the Law Enforcement Torch Run
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police Officers, Auxiliary Officers and local Special Olympians are getting ready for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The Special Olympians will leave the Woodstock Police Station at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. From there they will head east on Dundas, turn right onto Norwich Ave, meet up with some walkers at the Heart FM Studio, and make their way to Boston Pizza. The restaurant will provide the participants, family members, and other attendees with pizza, pop, and water once they arrive.
The runners and walkers will have a police escort so all of the traffic lights will be blocked.
Auxiliary Staff Sergeant Deb Klemp says you will definitely be able to spot the Special Olympians when the run is taking place.
"The kids run with the torch and a banner that is the Law Enforcement Torch Run of the province and we share that between police forces. It's pretty incredible; they pass it off to each other along the route and then we carry a big banner that says 'Special Olympics' so this allows people to see who we are and what we are doing as we walk or run the route."
Klemp adds all of the money raised will go back into the community.
"It's a fundraiser for the Law Enforcement Torch Run which actually gives back to the community and helps support these individuals to do their sports, camps and stuff that they do."
Klemp encourages business owners along the route to come out and support the runners and walkers when they pass by.
