Community members are being encouraged to post a video of themselves on Facebook splashing their family member by surprise, and donate funds online, which will help raise money for the new splash pad in Embro.
EMBRO - The Zorra Splash Pad Challenge has been launched to help raise funds for a new splash pad in Embro.
The Splash Pad Committee launched the challenge, with the help of the Tonwship. Members of the community are encouraged to post a video on Facebook of themselves splashing a member of their household.
Participants are encouraged to donate online to raise funds for the splash pad. The viral challenge was started off by Splash Paddy, the project’s fun-loving mascot. She challenged the Mayor of Zorra, Marcus Ryan who posted a Facebook video of himself falling into his pool. Ryan, in turn challenged other community leaders to participate in the challenge and post a Facebook video.
The new Zorra Splash Pad will be located in the Village of Embro with an anticipated opening date of summer of 2021. The community has been fundraising for the project and has raised $106,000 of the $275,000 goal. This includes a $75,000 commitment from the Township of Zorra.
Splash Pad Committee Chairperson Crystal Finch says they wanted to find a fun way to raise some funds during these difficult times.
“The Zorra Splash Challenge is a fun way for the community to stay connected during a challenging period of social distancing. Splash Pads are fun for all ages and encourage physical activity, discovery, inclusivity and exploration. Funds raised from the Zorra Splash Pad Challenge will help build a place for children to play, parents to connect, and for neighbours to build and strengthen ties with each other. COVID-19 is a reminder of how much communities need each other during challenging times."
