Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says they are preparing testing centres for more people when cold and flu season arrives.
OXFORD COUNTY - Southwestern Public Health is preparing for the possibilities of a second wave of COVID-19.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says they are preparing testing centres for more people when cold and flu season arrives.
"The one thing we are all waiting to see unfold is the cold and flu season. That said, we are prepared, the bottom line is in general you cannot tell COVID-19 apart from other respiratory virus, so if you get a cold, you have to think it could be COVID-19, so stay home and go and get tested. Out testing centres have been making sure they are prepared to handle the cases that may be coming with the advances of the cold and flu season."
Dr. Lock says in some cases they will be testing for COVID-19 and the flu at the same time so they can keep track.
"Our labs are prepared, we have some swabs they will be using, in some cases they will be testing for COVID and flue at the same time, so we can keep track of how the flu is spreading along with COVID-19."
She is also confident the measures we have taken since the pandemic started, could lead to less people getting sick this year.
"With all of the measures that we worked so hard on during the summer, will hopefully keep the spread of other viruses down as well and so, who knows, it might even be a much milder winter in terms of people getting sick than it has been in the past."
