The Province Is Set To Review Boundary Adjustments Agreement Before Moving Forward

After the Woodstock City council gave their approval on the boundary adjustment agreement, the information is set to be reviewed by the province. Prior to last Thursday's meeting, both councils went through a lengthy process, which included a public consultation in August.

WOODSTOCK - The boundary adjustment agreement has been approved between Woodstock City council and South-West Oxford council.

Last Thursday's meeting saw council authorize Mayor Trevor Birtch, along with the city clerk, to sign the necessary documents.

He says they'll now send the information to the province for review.

"It'll be going off to our senior partners at the province for their review to go over the surveys, property information and the details in the agreement."

Mayor Birtch adds the agreement has been approved at all three levels of government.

The agreement would see the boundaries extended at Karn Road, on the west side of Woodstock.

Prior to the meeting, both councils went through a lengthy process, which included a public consultation in August.

Staff's report says council first approved a draft boundary adjustment proposal in June.

Mayor Birtch says although it was a long process, he had confidence in staff.

"We want to make sure we have it in weeks in advance so that it doesn't get left behind with questions on anyone's desk in Toronto."

Mayor Birtch praised the efforts of both staff at city council and in the SWOX, and he pointed to the fact council had previously completed a successful boundary adjustment agreement for new employment lands with the Township of Norwich.

A decision on the agreement is expected to be made by the province before the end of the year.

If approved, Mayor Birtch says it'll go into effect as of January 1st, 2020.
