SWOX Township Council has entered into a land agreement to provide a larger park and to build more homes in Mount Elgin.
MOUNT ELGIN - Mount Elgin will be getting a new look.
An agreement has been made between South-West Oxford Township and Mount Elgin Developments Incorporated. The deal will see an exchange of 2.9 acres of parkland at the Mount Elgin Community Centre for the same amount of land along the south-west side of Mount Elgin Road.
This will allow a larger park area as part of phase 1 of the new Mount Elgin Heights Development. The Township will also purchase an additional lot making the new park 3.6 acres with a cost of $179,000. The former park area will be transitioned into residential housing, focusing on housing opportunities for seniors.
The plan now is to lease back the exchanged land at the Community Centre for five years for continued use of the ball diamond and tennis court.
There will be an opportunity for public input to determine future amenities.
