New features coming to the Woodstock Art Gallery include an environmental focus, an exhibit featuring a local artist, and even our young artists displaying their work.
WOODSTOCK - 2016 is promising to be a big year for the Woodstock Art Gallery.
Director and Curator of the Art Gallery, Mary Reid, explains what will be taking place in January. "Well all of our current exhibitions now - I was able to squeeze out a couple more weeks and they will be on view until the middle of January. Then what happens is the gallery goes through, what we call in the industry, a dark period where we are working behind the scenes to turn things over. We are going to do our big launch over Family Day which occurs on the 13th, 14th, and 15th."
Reid is very excited for February. "We will be looking at a refresh of our permanent collection and particularly taking more of an environmental spin. And then on the second floor we will be turning over both the spaces we're having an exhibition of Joe Lima and Walter Redinger. We will be highlighting the project that we did with a couple of the local schools in the area where we pair professional artists with students and those will be in the Community Gallery." Reid added that Joe Lima was from Woodstock and still has family living in the Friendly city so it is an interesting way to honour his work.
Reid says they will look to hold more programs for all ages. "Our programs are really ramping up! In the past when we offered them and we would sort of make the minimum capacity; we are certainly looking to try to increase that. We have a number of very exciting children's programs but also adult programs."
The Art Gallery is free to attend and is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday
