What If It Was Me? is about two brothers with dreams of becoming pro athletes, until one of them becomes paralyzed from the neck down.
WOODSTOCK - A movie that was filmed before the pandemic and shelved for several years will finally be making its debut at Theatre Woodstock.
What If It Was Me? focuses on the true story of Buddy and Jimmy Miley, two brothers who both had dreams of becoming pro athletes.
Director Matt Power says their world was turned upside down one fateful day.
"Buddy was a star football player in Warminster, Pennsylvania and had a lot of potential to be a pro football player, but unfortunately he was in an accident during a game and became paralyzed from the neck down."
Jimmy wound up leaving his pro baseball career with the Los Angeles Dodgers so he could return home and take care of his brother.
Buddy was only 17 when the accident happened in the late 1970s, but the movie is based when he's an adult the mid 1990s. It includes scenes that were filmed in Woodstock, Ingersoll and Toronto.
Power was first approached about making the film in 2017 and the filming started in 2018. The movie was finished in 2020, and Power explains why no one has seen it yet.
"Mark Schneider, who approached me about making the film, he paid for this movie out of his own pocket. He was really the producer of the film and had a lot of plans for what to do with it once it was finished. Unfortunately, just shortly after the final edit was complete, he passed away suddenly and the film was never released."
Power has received the Schneider family's blessing to premiere the movie at Theatre Woodstock this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online here. The real Jimmy Miley will be attending the premiere, alongside several of the cast members.
Matt Power stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday January 16th. You can listen to the full interview below:
