Three people have been arrested in the connection to the death of a 32 year-old man from Halidmand County.They are all from the County and they appeared in a Cayuga courtroom earlier this morning.
HALDIMAND COUNTY - Three people have been arrested in relation to a death investigation involving a 32 year-old man from Haldimand County.
OPP and the Haldimand County Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Gaynor of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have arrested and charged three people in relation to the death investigation of Jason Robert Kerr of Haldimand County, which began in February.
29 year-old Hillary Elizabeth Robertson has been charged with the following offences:
Manslaughter, contrary to section 236(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);
Causing death by criminal negligence, contrary to section 220(b) of the CC;
Trafficking in substance- Carfentanyl, contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA).
32 year-old Terry Anthony Wood has been charged with:
Manslaughter contrary to section 236(b) of the CC;
Causing death by Criminal Negligence contrary to section 220(b) of the CC;
Trafficking in substance- Carfentanyl contrary to section 5(1) of the CDSA.
27 year-old Jesse Ross Wellings has been charged with:
Possession for the purpose of trafficking-carfentanyl, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA.
Detective Inspector of the Criminal Investigation Branch for the OPP, Randy Gaynor says they are investigating the opioid-related incident.
"The OPP is committed to supporting safe, healthy communities for all Ontarians. As a law enforcement organization, the OPP's role in this crisis is to investigate opioid-related incidents with an acute focus on the apprehension of those who produce, import, and traffic illegal drugs."
Constable Ed Sanchuk says if there is any kind of illegal drugs happening in your community, you're asked to contact OPP.
"If you know something in your community, if you know people that are dealing illicit drugs, carfentanyl, fentanyl, whatever the case may be, you need to have the courage to pick up the phone and let us know."
The three accused were held in custody and they appeared in a Cayuga courtroom this morning.
