Time Share Scam Takes $16 000 From Norfolk Resident

Police are investigating after a scam artist fleeced a Norfolk resident of $16 000 when the scammer claimed to have sold their time share.

One person from Norfolk County is out $16 000 after falling victim to a time share scam. 

Police say the victim was contacted by a scam artist who was pretending to work as a real estate agent and offered to sell the time share for them. After fees were negotiated the victim sent $16 000 to the scam artist who told them they had sold their time share. This all turned out to be a scam. 

Constable Ed Sanchuk tells Heart FM you should always be wary when sending money through a wire service. 

"Anytime when someone asks you to forward money, red flags should go up and you always have to say to yourself if something is too good to be true it probably is. We do want to get this message out to anyone looking to sell a time share: please when you go to sell them make sure you do your due diligence when you go to sell them and understand there are people out there who are trying to scam you and looking to take advantage." 

Sanchuk says police are investigating and they are getting the word out to residents to always be cautious when doing business with someone you do not know.
