A new hockey season is dawning, and the Woodstock Navy Vets hopes are high for the season ahead. They'll open things up on Friday night with the season and home opener against the Paris Mounties. The Vets have struggled both on and off the ice for several years. New GM Devon Young hopes a fresh start in the boardroom will translate to wins on the ice. "I think it's the most important thing. It's hard to imagine this city without this team, in my opinion and it's the reason why we're all doing it, other than for the kids. We want to see this team at the place that it once was years back when the city really supported it". Young believes the Vets will be "very competitive" for the first time in several years and has high hopes for one of their returning players. "One guy in particular is Kyle Robertson we got back this year, he played for the club a couple of years ago and then went to school and played for Chippawa last year. He's going to be something special to watch". To try and get the community behind the team, the Navy Vets are offering free admission to everyone for Friday night's home opener. The puck drops at 7:45 pm, with some pre-game on-ice player introductions and ceremonies.
