It was an honour just to be nominated.
OXFORD COUNTY - It was close but no cigar for the Warden of Oxford and the Mayor of Woodstock at the Power Prosperity Awards.
David Mayberry and Trevor Birtch carpooled to the event in the Warden's electric car on Thursday night after the Future Oxford Expo. The awards were hosted by the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association.
Birtch tells Heart FM that while they didn't win it was an honour just to be nominated for the 20 - 20 Leadership of Year Award and it was also a great networking opportunity.
"It was great to be nominated, we did not win the award but we sure did learn a lot in the process and I think we gained a lot of valuable contacts that will help us in the future, Woodstock and Oxford, they have a lot to be proud of. The people that we met there and the stories that were being told from all of the nominees were certainly inspirational to us and also as they learned more about our story, they were inspired by what the people here in Woodstock and Oxford are doing and really what a great networking opportunity."
The pair were nominated for the work they have done in creating the 100 percent renewable energy goal for Oxford County by 2050 and for the sustainability initiatives adopted at both the County and City level.
