If you're going to sign up to be County Warden, you better be willing to put in the hours.
That was the message from Councillor David Mayberry at Wednesday night's council meeting.
Councillor Pat Sobeski requested a motion that would ask the Minister of Municipal Affairs to allow Oxford to reduce the Warden's term from four years to just one.
Ted Comiskey worried the warden may neglect their other duties as Mayor of their municipality while also fulfilling the role of Warden.
Mayberry disagreed and said he felt the role of Warden was that of a relationship builder with other jurisdictions and felt a one year term was just not enough.
Councillor Margaret Lupton felt one year was not long enough, since there was a learning curve involved with the job but would entertain the idea of a two year term.
Council voted down the motion, leaving the Warden to serve the full four year term.
