Part of Oxford County's Future Oxford Sustainability Plan is moving towards Zero Waste.
One of the busier tables at the Future Oxford Expo belonged to the Waste Management team for the County of Oxford.
They were promoting wasteline.ca app to give people an idea on what they are taking at our waste management facility and blue box program and what they are taking at the curb. Waste Management and Rural Property Supervisor Dave Vermeeren tells Heart FM they also fielded some questions about the County's meeting it's zero waste goals.
"Part of that to is also trying to find how much garbage is actually leaving the County and how we are going to bring that garbage back and how we are going to deal with it, so we are going to have to find some alternative technology to landfilling to get rid of some of this waste, that is the only way we are going to meet this target."
Vermeeren says they are exploring new technologies and techniques as they move towards Zero Waste.
"Things like actually compressing the garbage and then wetting it and turning it into methane gas and reducing it by doing that, there is a lot of different technologies that we are actually starting to look at, we are at the beginning stages of all this but the longer we wait, the harder it will be to actually meet our target."
