OPP officers are frustrated with the amount of speeders in the area
OXFORD COUNTY - Those caught speeding are on the rise in the area.
Constable Ed Sanchuck explains what could happen when you speed and the weather conditions change. "We are responding to several collisions over the course of the December month and going into January. The roads are clear and dry and I can just imagine what the roads would be like if there was an inch of snow on the roadways. We really need people to focus their attention on their driving, and reduce their speed. We are continuing to see individuals going over the speed limit which is putting not only their lives in danger, but innocent motorists, and civilians walking along the roadways at risk."
As the weather conditions continue to change throughout the winter it is important to go slow especially in heavily populated areas, and Constable Sanchuck wants to stay safe behind the wheel. "People that are walking should be wearing reflective clothing to make themselves visible to the motoring public, however the motoring public need to be aware of their surroundings at all times and be prepared for the unexpected. Driving a motor vehicle is a privilege not a right so if they can't obey the speed limit they are obviously going to be getting pulled over and they are going to be getting charged. We have a zero tolerance policy because they are putting innocent lives at risk."
Constable Sanchuck says the amount of collisions are alarming. "In one of the focus patrols we issued over 21 provincial offence act charges for speeding that were over 30km over the posted speed limit in residential areas, and I don't know what it is going to take for people to simply slow down. We always hear time and time again that weather conditions have caused these collisions, it is not these weather conditions it is poor driving habits and people need to wake up and realize that."
