The Woodstock General Hospital have taken The Pledge. 511 staff, volunteers, patients, and visitors signed their names to an effort to end bullying in the community. Human Resources Manager Kim Osmond says they were thrilled with the response. "For this to be our inaugural year, we surpassed our goal. We're really pleased to be a part of the initiative. It's full circle. We have the workplace violence policy which is our code of conduct. We now have a violent patient identifier program. And then the pledge is really a community involvement. It completes the loop that it affects everybody; workplace, patients and home". Osmond says during their campaign, they conducted walk-abouts through the hospital to create awareness and encourage support from the staff, patients and visitors. They also had information displays on bullying and banners placed at the two main entrances. According to Osmond, the campaign is just one of many strategies they use to raise awareness about bullying, which they have covered in hospital policies for 25 plus years. They also support their staff with education sessions and communication strategies on domestic violence, harassment and bullying.
