This is the first time any type of cricket team has won a championship for the City of Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Kings XI are the BEDCL champions this year.
Manager of the club Kevin Bhatal says this is the first cricket championship ever for the City of Woodstock.
"We were playing in division one and we had our finals a couple of weeks ago and we came out as champions. This is the first time any type of cricket team has won a championship for the City of Woodstock."
They beat a team from Brampton the Punjab Battalion on the finals to claim the championship.
Bhatal says he hopes this win will help promote the great game of cricket in the City of Woodstock.
"We are planning to start a summer camp this year as well to train young kids and the City has been very helpful with that too. The City officials, Chris and Brian Connor's have been a great help by providing us with a temporary pitch last year, which helped us practice."
He adds the Mayor has been very helpful as well in getting cricket off the ground in Woodstock. The BEDCL cricket season runs from May to October. If anyone is interested in joining the club, they can contact Kevin at
