WOODSTOCK - Upper Thames Brewing Company in Woodstock is hosting an 898 Strong Kick Off party on Saturday night.
Brett Opthof is looking to raise some money and awareness for the Heart and Stroke Foundation by running 892 kilometres from Tobermory to Niagara.
Opthof is himself a stroke survivor and he will be speaking at the event.
"I'll be talking about why I am doing what I am doing, what I have gone through, what I plan to achieve, possible future events and they we have a really good performer, Josh Braiden who will be playing for a couple of hours and we will also have door prizes to give away."
Opthof was born with a heart defect and has spent the last several years in and out of the hospital. An avid runner, he is looking forward to completing this journey to raise money and awareness.
"It kind of dawned on me after my series of strokes that I had in October, so I have been on both sides of the situation for Heart and Stroke, so I started thinking about what can I do to raise awareness."
Opthof hopes to take this journey at the end of August or early September. He has 16 days to get the trip done, however he thinks he can do it in 10.
Tickets for the kick-off party cost $30 and it includes, entrance, entertainment and a light meal with all donations going to Heart and Stroke Research. It's happening this Saturday night from 7-11 pm and you can buy your tickets online here.
