THAMESFORD - More money is coming to the Thames Valley District School Board.
The Ministry of Education approved an additional $10.5-million for the Board to purchase land for the new elementary school in Thamesford. The new school will be at 149 Brock Street, which is a transformational development for Thamesford and Zorra Township, called Riverside Village. Once complete, the facility will hold just under 479 students from kindergarten to grade 4, as well as a five-room, 88-space child care facility. TVDSB Director of Education, Bill Tucker shared his thoughts about the funds.
"We are very excited to announce this milestone related to building a new school. It shows our board’s continuing commitment to provide quality education for all students."
Mayor of Zorra Township, Marcus Ryan is excited for what this means for the community.
"This is a great collaboration between the Thames Valley District School Board and the community of Thamesford and all of Zorra Township” The additional investment by the Ministry of Education will provide further resources to get this build underway. Together, we’re building more than just a school, we’re building a vibrant future for generations to come."
The new school will start being built once development in Riverside Village progresses, and the plan for Riverside Village is to have more than 1,000 residential units in the area. An opening date for the new school will be announced once the other development has moved along far enough. When the new school opens, Thamesford Public School will be converted into a school for students in grades 5 through 8.
