WOODSTOCK - The Emmanuel Reformed Church in Woodstock will be rocking to the tunes of the African Children's Choir on Friday.
Tour Leader for the choir Emily Gronow tells Heart FM what you should expect if you take in the choir this weekend. "They should expect to see lot's of colour on stage with beautiful costumes, a mixture of traditional gospel songs that will be familiar to the audience, but also some African culture through singing and dancing."
Music for Life is bringing the choir who has performed in front of presidents, heads of state and most recently the Queen of England will be in the Friendly City on Friday July 31st. The choir is made up of some of Africa's most vulnerable children and it gives them a chance at a better life. Choir Manager Tina Sipp tells Heart FM the kids will do an 80 minute set performing gospel music. "We have 18 children from Uganda, 9 boys and 9 girls, they range in age from 7 to 11 and they do about an 80 minute musical program that is almost entirely in a second language to their native language, they perform in English doing mostly gospel songs."
Sipp says they also do a number of ethnic worship pieces that they sing to drums, they have three costume changes and they do some traditional dances from their country. The African Children's Choir is a nonprofit humanitarian and relief organization dedicated to helping Africa's most vulnerable children today so they can help Africa tomorrow.
The choir does not charge to get in to see the show and accept donations at the door at the Emmanuel Reformed Church at 7p.m. on Friday July 31st. A free-will offering is taken at the performance to support African Children's Choir programs, such as education, care and relief and development programs.
