You'll be able to chat with women currently in the field and ask any questions you may have.
WOODSTOCK - Registration is currently open for a Women in Policing Information Session in Woodstock.
The Woodstock Police Service will be hosting it at Huron Park Secondary School on Thursday January 29th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m..
Community Safety and Media Relations Officer Pritpal Thind says it's open to women in Grade 12 or older, regardless if they live in Woodstock or not.
"What this event is about is showing that policing is a meaningful and rewarding career for women. Women interested in policing can hear directly from our female officers about their motivations, their work and their challenges."
Those who attend will be able to take part in a fitness test to see if they have what it takes to be an officer. Those interested in clerical roles will also be able to ask questions about dispatch, court security and more.
Thind says they want to encourage more women to join the field.
"In Woodstock, women currently make up about 20 percent of our sworn in police officers and roughly 70 percent of our civilian team. We're definitely proud of the our progress on the civilian side, but we recognize there is work to do so our sworn in ranks better affect our community."
He adds more women allow the service to provide better policing in Woodstock.
"We value the unique perspective women bring to investigations especially in cases involving intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and dealing with trauma affected communities. Sometimes survivors feel safer and more comfortable talking to female officers which leads to better outcomes with better statements, better evidence, better everything."
Those interested in attending the Women in Policing Information Session have until Tuesday January 27th to register. All they have to do is send an e-mail to womeninpolicing@woodstockpolice.ca.
