The regional jet hit a fire truck that was responding to a separate emergency on the runway.
NEW YORK - Two people have died after a plane crashed into a fire truck on a runway at LaGuardia Airport in New York.
The Air Canada regional jet was flying in from Montreal when the crash happened at around midnight last night. Officials say it was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members at the time.
The fire truck was responding to a separate emergency aboard a Delta flight and two of the people in the truck were sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says a total of 41 people were hospitalized. Nine of the victims remain in hospital at this time and some of them are in critical condition. The pilots have since passed away.
The airport is closed for the investigation and it's scheduled to reopen this afternoon.
