Members and supporters of the LGBTQ community rallied outside of a Norwich Road residence in response to a message that was posted on the sign outside.
NORWICH - Members and supporters of the LGBTQ Community rallied on the side on Norwich Road after a one mans sign sparked controversy.
Bruce Woodford posted the message " LGBTQ's hijacked the rainbow. It's not a celebration of sins that god judges," on a sign on his rented property early last week. The other side of the sign read "LGBTQ's hijacked the rainbow. It's the token of Gods everlasting covenent."
A police officer visited Woodford last Monday in order to discuss the sign. Woodford says the messages were not meant to be malicious and he has no problem with members of the LGBTQ community.
"I would defend the right of these people to make their own choices but I said I cannot support or celebrate choices that I believe are wrong and have regretable consequences."
The photos of the sign sparked outrage on Facebook over the weekend.
Leah Mitchell helped organize an LGBTQ rally outside of Woodford's home last night. She says she wanted to send a message of acceptance.
"I wanted to ensure that Norwich is an accepting community. There are times where people will have different opinions and that's okay, but I wanted to make sure that the pride community felt welcome in this town as much as any other community does."
Once Woodford caught word of the rally he changed the message on his sign, inviting people onto his property so they could talk it out.
