The price goes up to $2 a tag Tuesday
OXFORD COUNTY - It's your last chance to stock up on garbage bag tags at $1.50.
Starting Tuesday, July 1, the price of the tags are going up to $2 per tag in Oxford County.
Waste Management Coordinator Pam Antonio says the hope is users will have added incentive to recycle or compost.
"We know that there is still a considerable amount of recyclable material going into the weekly garbage bag so this is a good opportunity for people to be more conscience about separating their blue box materials from their waste stream and putting the material in their blue box."
Antonio says this is not a money making venture for the County.
"Even at $2 a tag, that price of bag tag does not cover the cost of curbside collection and disposal. It still under funds that program but it's a way to help deal with program costs as well as encourage diversion."
Antonio is encouraging everyone to take a look at the Proposed Waste Management Strategy that will shape the way waste is collected over the next 5-10 years.
"One of the things that we are looking at and asking questions about is the bag tag program and curbside collection. There's a total of 22 proposed recommendations that we are asking for feedback on so I would encourage anyone who hasn't already to go to the County's Speak Up Oxford site to take a look at the Let's Talk Trash webpage."
Any bag tags purchased before July 1 will still be honoured.
