Another school year is about to begin and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County is calling for mentors.
OXFORD COUNTY - As students are gearing up for back to school, so are mentors with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County.
The organization has an in-school mentoring program, which is said to be a great way to get your feet wet when it comes to becoming a mentor. Manager of Communications, Liz Wismer-Van Meer on what the programs entail.
"It's one hour per week, once a week at the mentee's school. It's here in Oxford County, and it's only through the school year."
Wismer-Van Meer says lots of Oxford County employers are involved and let employees take part in being a mentor, and the time commitment is not that much.
"A lot of folks when they get into that program, that's one of the things they say, it wasn't really that much, some people do it during their lunch hour, they will take their lunch break."
You have to be 18 or older to be a mentor, and there is an online application that has to be filled out. All that information is on the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County website.
