Over 4-thousand dollars has been given to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford County. The funds were handed out by the Starbucks Foundation.
OXFORD COUNTY - A substantial chunk of money has come to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oxford.
A total of $4,050 was given to the organization.
Executive Director, Kristen Ralph says where the money came from.
"We were nominated by our local Starbucks here to receive a grant from the Starbucks Foundation. It's a neighbourhood grant, so it goes to support local charities in Woodstock."
Ralph says Big Brothers Big Sisters does not receive ongoing government funding, so they rely on grants and other forms of donations to support their services.
She adds how the funds will be used.
"It will go directly towards supporting our mentoring programs. So, making sure that kids who are facing adversity have a trusted and positive adult to connect with on a regular basis."
In a release, Starbucks Woodstock Store Manager, Jonathen Kimpton says, "The reason that we chose Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Oxford County is that we have a desire to support the youth as they are the future of this community."
Kimpton adds, "We want to make sure that everyone feels welcome in our stores here in Woodstock. This is why we have created a strong community presence to help as many individuals as possible within our region."
Ralph adds, there has been an increase of over 200% in applications, so community support is needed to make sure the services can continue.
