She won $5 million off a winning lottery ticket that almost went unclaimed.
BEACHVILLE - Looks like listening to the radio paid off for a woman from Beachville.
According to the OLG, Connie Christie plays the lottery regularly but she forgets to scan her tickets from time to time.
The OLG sent out a press release on April 17th this year, letting everyone know that the $5 million prize from the Lotto 6/49 draw on May 4th, 2024 still hadn't been claimed. Winning lottery tickets have to be claimed within a year, so time was running out for this winner to come forward.
Christie had recently found a stack of unchecked lottery tickets at her home, and knew she had to check them when she heard about the unclaimed prize on the radio while running errands.
"When I heard the details, I turned to my mom and said, ‘I have a feeling that’s my ticket!’ After dropping my mom off, I went home and checked my tickets using the OLG app."
That's when she found the winning ticket that she had purchased at the Petro-Canada on Norwich Ave in Woodstock a year prior.
Christie it's a dream come true.
"I would dream of winning big every time I’d check my tickets. I’d think about how I could help my family and the impact it would have on all of us. It feels so validating now, especially after all the times I’d head out to get my tickets and my kids would tease me! I’d always say, ‘You can’t win if you don’t play!’ Now, my heart’s full of joy and I’m humbled by what this means for us."
Christie works in logistics, but she's now planning on spending more time with her loved ones.
"I’m so grateful to share this moment with my family. I feel so thankful and fortunate for this win. I plan to retire, and I want my husband to do the same. We can now spend our time doing what we love and enjoying our time together. I’d also like to treat my husband to a scenic road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway."
