Oxford County MP, Arpan Khanna, is once again urging the Liberals to support and pass the Jail Not Bail Act.

OTTAWA - An urgent plea has been put out by the federal Conservatives.

Oxford County MP, Arpan Khanna, along with Shadow Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Larry Brock, are calling on the Liberals to support and pass Bill C-242, the Jail Not Bail Act. The bill will be back up for debate during the second reading this week.

The Jail Not Bail Act would restore public confidence in the justice system by ensuring that individuals accused of serious, repeat, and violent offences face stricter bail conditions and are not routinely released back into communities to reoffend. Khanna mentions why this bill needs to be passed.

"Communities across this country are dealing with the real and immediate impacts of catch-and-release justice. The Jail Not Bail Act is a common-sense response that prioritizes victims, restores accountability, and ensures that dangerous individuals are kept behind bars."

Khanna adds another argument as to why Bill C-242 needs to be passed.

"With extortion and violent crime at alarming rates, Canadians cannot afford further delay. This is an opportunity for all parties to come together, put public safety first, and deliver real results for Canadians."

The Conservatives are urging the government to support its swift passage and demonstrate a genuine commitment to restoring safety in communities across Canada.
