Shoppers will be out and about trying to catch Black Friday deals, and the Woodstock Police want to make sure everything is done safely.
WOODSTOCK - The stores and shopping malls will be packed today for Black Friday.
Many people will be out and about searching for the best deals, and the Woodstock Police Service has some tips for shoppers.
Media Relations and Community Service Officer Pritpal Thind advises keeping a close eye on the items you purchase.
"We don't want shoppers to leave purchases unattended. We want them to park under lighting in a safe space, and we want them to avoid treating their vehicles as storage. If you shop in bulk, sometimes people take all of the shopping stuff in their vehicles so they can take everything out at a certain time or all at once."
You should also keep your wallet and/or purse close at all times and shred your receipts when they're no longer needed.
Thind says holiday shopping can be stressful for lots of people.
"That could cause situations like road rage or people just acting out of frustration. We want people to be respectful of each other's space and leave plenty of time for their shopping to prevent that kind of situation from occurring."
If you are planning on taking advantage of the online deals, make sure you are using reputable websites and try to plan your package deliveries for a time you will be home. We will have more online shopping tips in another article that will be posted on Monday, December 1st, for Cyber Monday.
