Environment Canada is warning of the potential for a major ice storm. Colder temperatures, coupled with an approaching low from the U.S. could mean a messy mix of ice pellets and freezing rain for our area. Periods of heavy freezing rain could move into the region later this afternoon, into the evening. Environment Canada are saying we could see anywhere from 10 to 20 mm of freezing rain by tomorrow morning. Motorists should prepare for poor driving conditions. There is also a risk for downed power lines and trees which could cause widespread power outages. Environment Canada says there is some uncertainty as to the extent of the cold air which would impact the amount of ice pellets or freezing rain that falls in our region. Areas to the north and east of Toronto are under a winter storm warning with the possibility of 10 to 15 centimetres of snow. Conditions are expected to improve overnight Thursday into Friday morning. Keep it tuned to Heart FM for the latest details on weather updates, traffic and any delays or cancellations.
