The WPS is encouraging outdoor security camera owners to register with CAMSafe, so police know who to reach out to if they need footage of a specific area.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service now has access to CAMSafe, a CCTV and security video registry program.
Deputy Chief Nick Novacich is encouraging local home and business owners with their own security cameras to sign up, so officers know who to reach out to if they need video footage of a specific area during an investigation.
"The Woodstock Police are always looking to leverage the latest technology to assist our officers and provide the necessary tools for them to keep our community safe. This program is built on partnerships with the residents and businesses in the City of Woodstock and will contribute to the overall safety and wellbeing of our community."
All you have to do is visit the CAMSafe website and provide your name, address and contact information. You also have to include the number of cameras you have and which directions they face.
Police officers will not be able to directly access the cameras on their own. CAMSafe is simply a directory of security cameras, so they know who they should reach out to if they believe they need video footage of a specific area. Those who sign up can also delete their account at any time.
