Canada Day Celebrations to Hit Woodstock

It will be a busy day at Southside Park in Woodstock as the City celebrates the Country's birthday.

WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is getting ready for the big Canada Day celebration in Southside Park.

It will run from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. this year. Live music will start at 2:00 p.m. with Adella Knopf, Smokes Light Lightning and Jason Mercer Music.

The opening ceremonies will take place at 5:30 p.m. with speeches from dignitaries and free Canada Day cookies to go around.

The live music will start up again at 5:40 p.m. with Fiddlestix and Blind Dog Joe with Rob Cromwell, leading up to the headlining act, The Looney Tunes. They will be covering some Canadian hits starting at 8:30 p.m.

Manager of Special Events Kristen Brodhagen says families will also be able to check out the Canadian Kids Zone from 2:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

"It's all free activities for all ages with inflatables, a rock climbing wall and a photobooth. It will be lots of fun so we really hope to see everyone there!"

Fireworks will light up the night sky at 9:30 p.m. for a spectacular show that's sponsors by Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.

Woodstock's Canada Day celebration is free to attend, but you will have pay if you want buy anything from the marketplace or one of the food trucks on site. Brodhagen says lots of the vendors and food trucks should offer debit/credit, but there will be an ATM on site as well.

Brodhagen suggests parking at the Reeves Community Complex and walking to the park.

"A lot of the roads will have no parking and there will be closures surrounding the park, so we do encourage people to use the large parking lots in the area."

They will have volunteers on site to assist with the parking situation.

Kristen Brodhagen stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Wednesday June 25th. You can listen to the full interview below:
