The House of Commons has voted to extend and expand Canada's military mission in Iraq and Syria.
CANADA - Canada's military involvement in Iraq has been extended and expanded.
The House of Commons voted 142 - 129 in favour of continuing military presence in Syria, which will include airstrikes on ISIL targets. Canadian forces will be authorized to perform bombing runs in a move Prime Minister Harper says is necessary to combat the threat of global terrorism.
Neither the N-D-P nor the Liberals voted in favour of extending the mission - the NDP saying they'd like to see more humanitarian efforts put forth in the war torn area, while the Liberals would like to increase the number of soldiers sent to train the people of Iraq to fight the terrorist group.
Canada's new role in the US led coalition extends the mission by up to a year.
