Shane Caskanette will officially step up as the next Fire Chief for Tillsonburg Fire and Rescue Services on August 23rd.
TILLSONBURG - The Town of Tillsonburg will soon have a new Fire Chief.
Shane Caskanette has accepted the role and will start on August 23rd. He will be taking over for Brad Lemaich, who left Tillsonburg after a year to take on the Fire Chief role in Kincardine.
Caskanette says he is really excited to be back in Oxford County after starting his career in Woodstock 30 years ago.
"Perspective that I have gained over my 30 year career, not only just the fire service, but it gives you perspective on the municipalities, how the municipalities work, how fire services work, how to do things differently. I think that is what has given me the advantage when it comes to this position. I do look forward to coming back working with the other fire departments in Oxford County, as well as the other emergency services. I think all of this experience and perspective has really set me up to be successful as the new Fire Chief for the Town of Tillsonburg and I am excited to start on August 23rd, in my new role."
Caskanette has previously worked as a Fire Chief in Oshawa and Brantford. He has experience overseeing all aspects of the fire service, including emergency management and joint fire communications centres.
Caskanette says his main focus though will be on fire prevention.
"What else excites me about this is the opportunity to work with Mayor, Council and the leadership team, as well obviously with the men and women of Tillsonburg Fire and Rescue, to continue to promote fire safety, that is really my passion."
Caskanette says Tillsonburg Fire and Rescue has a done a great job getting out into the community, even finding ways to do it virtually during the pandemic.
